About Liverpool College

Liverpool College’s Progress 8 score of 0.29 places it well above the Liverpool local authority average of -0.4 for secondary schools, meaning pupils here make significantly more academic progress than their peers across the city. That gap is striking — nearly seven-tenths of a grade per subject better than the LA norm — and it’s backed up by a ranking of 5th out of 30 schools in Liverpool, putting it in the top 17% locally. The school also sits in the top 19% of secondaries in the North West and the top 27% nationally. With an Attainment 8 score of 55 and 79.6% of pupils achieving a grade 4 or above in English and maths, the data paints a picture of a school that consistently outperforms its immediate neighbours. It’s one of only two Outstanding-rated secondaries in the entire local authority, and the nearest other Outstanding school is Archbishop Blanch CofE High School, 2.3 km away.

Ofsted’s most recent graded inspection, in 2019, rated the school Outstanding across every category — quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, sixth-form provision and early years provision all scored the top grade. A subsequent ungraded inspection in 2025 confirmed that standards have been maintained. At KS4, the school’s Progress 8 banding is ‘Above average’, with particularly strong progress in the EBacc subjects (0.53) and maths (0.32). At A-level, the picture is more mixed: the value-added score is -0.06, which falls into the ‘Average’ band, and the average points per entry grade is B-. The best three A-levels average out at B-, and 19.6% of entries achieved AAB or higher. The school’s EBacc entry rate is 63.9%, well above the national average, and 50.3% of pupils entered the EBacc achieved a grade 4 or above.

Liverpool College is a Church of England all-through school for ages 4 to 19, with a current roll of 1,653 pupils against a capacity of 1,100 — so it’s heavily oversubscribed. For 2025/26 entry, there were 1625 applications for 171 places, an oversubscription ratio of 9.5 to 1, and 347 first-preference applications for just 140 offers. The school has a wide range of facilities including a swimming pool, theatre, astro turf, chapel and sixth-form centre, and offers sports from rowing to rugby. SEND provision covers ten categories including dyslexia, autism, speech and language needs, and physical disabilities. Parent View responses (234 respondents) show 81% would recommend the school, with strong majorities agreeing that children are happy, safe and that the school has high expectations. However, SEND support is a notable weak spot: only 49% of parents agreed that SEND children get the support they need, while 46% disagreed. This is a school for families who prioritise strong academic outcomes and a broad range of activities, but who may want to investigate SEND provision carefully.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
