About Ash Green School

Ash Green School’s headline Progress 8 score of -0.48 sits well below the Warwickshire local authority average of 0.02, placing it in the bottom half of secondary schools across the county. That gap is significant: the LA average is essentially in line with national expectations, while Ash Green’s score means pupils here leave with nearly half a grade less per subject than their peers in similar schools across the region. The school ranks 31st out of 42 secondaries in Warwickshire, and nationally it sits in the bottom 20 per cent of schools on this measure. In its local area of Nuneaton and Bedworth, it ranks 6th out of 8 schools. The Attainment 8 score of 38.6 is also modest, and only 30.7 per cent of pupils achieved a grade 5 or above in English and maths. The school’s EBacc average point score of 3.29 and low EBacc entry rate of 25 per cent suggest a curriculum that doesn’t heavily push the full suite of academic subjects.

The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection in March 2025 was a section 8 monitoring visit, not a full graded inspection, so no overall effectiveness grade was issued. However, inspectors judged behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management all as Good, and the sixth form provision was also rated Good. The quality of education remains Requires Improvement, which is consistent with the academic outcomes. The previous graded inspection in December 2022 rated the school Inadequate overall, so this represents a notable improvement in leadership and culture. At Key Stage 5, the picture is mixed: the value added score of -0.48 is below average, and the average points per entry of 28.43 equates to a C grade. The best three A-levels averaged a C+, and only 7.7 per cent of entries achieved AAB or higher. The sixth form is small, with 46 pupils in the data, and its progress banding is rated below average.

Ash Green is a mixed, non-faith secondary with a sixth form, serving 912 pupils against a capacity of 980. It was oversubscribed for Year 7 entry in 2025/26, with 244 applications for 145 places and 114 first-preference offers from 116 first-preference applications. A third of pupils are eligible for free school meals, well above the national average. The school offers a wide range of SEND provisions, including support for autistic spectrum disorder, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Parent View responses from 218 families show 78 per cent would recommend the school, and strong majorities agree that children are happy and feel safe. Facilities include a swimming pool, astro turf, sports hall, tennis courts, and a sixth form centre. Clubs cover drama, chess, coding, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and Model UN. This is a school that has made real progress in behaviour and leadership, but academic outcomes remain a concern for families prioritising strong GCSE and A-level results.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
