About William Morris Primary School
Parents at William Morris Primary School are overwhelmingly positive about their experience, with 95% of respondents to the Ofsted Parent View survey saying they would recommend the school. The survey, which ran from September 2024 to September 2025 and gathered 40 responses, shows particularly strong satisfaction around communication: 80% strongly agreed the school makes them aware of what their child will learn, and 70% strongly agreed they are kept informed of their child’s progress. On happiness and safety, 75% strongly agreed their child is happy at the school, and 68% strongly agreed their child feels safe. The school is clearly popular locally too — for the 2025/26 admissions round, it received 97 applications for just 30 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 3.23. Of those 97 applicants, 32 put William Morris as their first preference, and 28 of those were offered a place.
Academically, William Morris presents a mixed picture. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 results, 55% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined — below the local authority average of 61%. The school ranks 142nd out of 242 primary schools in Oxfordshire on this measure, placing it in the bottom half nationally. However, individual subject results are stronger: 79% met expectations in writing, 72% in reading and 66% in maths. The average scaled scores were 104 in reading and 102 in maths, both slightly above the national baseline of 100. Higher-attaining pupils are less common here — just 7% achieved the higher standard across all three subjects — though 28% did so in writing. The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection in July 2025 judged it Outstanding overall, with Outstanding ratings for early years provision, leadership and management, and the quality of education.
The school serves children from age 2 through to 11, with nursery provision on site. Facilities include art studios, music rooms, an ICT suite and a Forest School, and there is a good range of clubs from drama and choir to eco club and chess. Sports on offer include gymnastics, netball, swimming and athletics. For children with additional needs, the school lists support for social, emotional and mental health, speech, language and communication needs, and autistic spectrum disorder — and 71% of parents who responded to the SEND question strongly agreed that the school gives these children the support they need. With 24% of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a relatively diverse intake. Given its oversubscription, families considering William Morris should be prepared to apply early and list it as a first preference to maximise their chances of a place.
