About Westwood Primary School
Westwood Primary School in Fenland has been rated Good across all areas in its most recent Ofsted inspection, a significant improvement from its previous Requires Improvement rating in 2023. The inspection, carried out in June 2025, judged the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management all as Good. The early years provision also received a Good rating. However, the school's academic outcomes tell a more complicated story. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 assessments, just 47% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. That is notably below the Cambridgeshire local authority average of 58% and places Westwood 19th out of 28 primary schools in Fenland. Only 1% of pupils achieved the higher standard in reading, writing and maths, and the school ranks in the bottom 50 nationally for this combined measure.
Looking at individual subjects, reading scores are the strongest: 64% of pupils met the expected standard and 18% reached a higher standard, with an average scaled score of 103. In maths, 56% met the expected standard and 10% achieved the higher standard, with an average score of 101. Writing is the weakest area, with 58% reaching the expected standard and just 1% achieving the higher standard. The school has no published progress scores for reading, writing or maths, so it is difficult to assess how much value it adds relative to pupils' starting points. Parent feedback from the Parent View survey, based on 68 responses between September 2024 and September 2025, shows 72% would recommend the school. However, responses to specific questions are mixed: 49% strongly agreed or agreed that concerns are dealt with properly, while 30% disagreed or strongly disagreed.
Westwood is a large primary school with 747 pupils on roll against a capacity of 840, and it is oversubscribed: for the 2025/26 intake, there were 96 first preference applications for 96 places, with 118 total applications. The school serves a community with above-average disadvantage, as 37.1% of pupils are eligible for free school meals. Facilities include music rooms, art studios, an ICT suite, a sensory room, a sports hall and a chapel. The school offers a range of sports including cricket, cross country, athletics, tennis and dance, plus clubs such as coding, science club and choir. SEND provision covers specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, moderate learning difficulty, social emotional and mental health needs, speech language and communication needs, and autistic spectrum disorder. This school may suit families who value the recent Ofsted improvement and the broad facilities, but parents should weigh the below-average academic outcomes carefully, particularly for writing.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
