About West Walker Primary School
West Walker Primary School has a mixed picture when it comes to how parents feel about the school. In the most recent Parent View survey, covering September 2024 to September 2025, 71% of the 14 respondents said they would recommend the school to other parents. That's a solid majority, but the detail is more nuanced. For instance, while 72% of parents either agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy, 29% disagreed. On safety, 72% felt their child is safe, but 28% disagreed or strongly disagreed. Concerns are a particular sticking point: only 50% of parents felt concerns are dealt with properly, while 36% disagreed. On the plus side, 86% agreed or strongly agreed that the school makes them aware of what their child will learn, and 79% felt their child does well. The school is clearly popular in the community — it was oversubscribed for 2025/26 entry, with 25 applications for 11 places, a ratio of 2.27 applicants per place, and all 11 first-preference offers were taken up.
Academically, West Walker performs slightly above the local authority average. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 results, 67% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with the Newcastle upon Tyne average of 63%. That places the school 23rd out of 55 primaries in the LA, putting it in the top half locally. In reading, 81% met the expected standard, with an average score of 104; in writing it was 78%, and in maths 70% with an average score of 103. However, the proportion reaching the higher standard in all three subjects was just 4%, and in individual subjects it ranged from 15% in reading and writing to 19% in maths. The school's most recent Ofsted inspection was an ungraded visit in June 2025, where inspectors confirmed that standards are being maintained, and the school retains its Good rating — a grade it has held since at least its previous graded inspection in 2014.
The school serves a community with high levels of disadvantage — 73.1% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, well above the national average. It has a nursery provision for children from age 2, and the school's capacity of 340 is currently underused with 212 pupils on roll. Facilities include a library, art studios, a gymnasium, a sensory room, a forest school area, playing fields, a sports hall and even a chapel. The SEND provision covers moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, and autistic spectrum disorder. There are a handful of clubs — book club, art club and eco club — and sports on offer include athletics, swimming, cross country, netball, cricket, football and rounders. For families who want a school that is actively engaged with its local community and has a clear focus on supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds, West Walker is a strong candidate, though the mixed parent feedback on safety and concerns is worth weighing up.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
