About The Mosley Academy
Parents thinking about The Mosley Academy will want to know what other families think, and the picture is largely positive. In the most recent Parent View survey, covering responses from September 2024 to September 2025, 85% of the 62 respondents said they would recommend the school. That’s a strong vote of confidence. The school is also clearly popular in the local area: for 2025/26 admissions, it received 117 applications for just 30 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 3.9. Of those, 39 were first-preference applications, and 29 first-preference offers were made. So it’s a school where getting a place is competitive, and the majority of families who get in seem to be happy with their choice. On individual questions, the strongest signals were around clubs and activities, with 74% strongly agreeing their child can take part, and 63% strongly agreeing their child feels safe. However, there are some areas where parents are less satisfied, particularly around support for children with SEND, where 39% disagreed that the school gives them the support they need.
Academically, The Mosley Academy is a solid but not standout performer within its local authority. In its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2025, the school was rated Good across all areas, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and early years provision. This is a step down from its previous inspection in 2014, when it was rated Outstanding overall. At Key Stage 2 in 2023/24, 63% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. That’s just below the Staffordshire local authority average of 65%. The school’s average reading score was 106 and maths score was 104, both slightly above the national benchmark of 100. A smaller proportion of pupils reached the higher standard in all three subjects, at 13%. In the East Staffordshire rankings, the school sits 13th out of 23 primary schools on the KS2 combined measure, placing it in the bottom half of the local authority. Nationally, it ranks around the midpoint, at the 50th percentile.
The school offers a decent range of facilities for a primary of its size, including a Forest School, playing fields, a sports hall, music rooms and a library. There are clubs covering coding, art, science, eco and choir, plus sports such as football, cricket, swimming, athletics and dance. For children with additional needs, the school lists provisions for specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language needs, hearing impairment, and autistic spectrum disorder. That said, the Parent View data suggests a significant minority of parents with SEND children feel support falls short, so it’s worth investigating further if your child has an identified need. The school is oversubscribed, so applying as a first preference is important. With 215 pupils on roll against a capacity of 212, it is running at full capacity. The proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals is very low at 2.3%, which may be a consideration for families looking for a more diverse intake. The Mosley Academy will suit families who value a broad range of extracurricular activities and a strong sense of safety, and who are comfortable with its Good but not Outstanding academic profile.
