About The Mawney Foundation School

The Mawney Foundation School sits slightly below the Havering local authority average for primary schools on the key KS2 benchmark. While the LA average for pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined is 65 per cent, Mawney achieves 60 per cent. That gap of five percentage points is modest but places the school 36th out of 60 primaries in the borough, in the bottom half of its local ranking. On the other hand, the school's average scaled scores in reading (106) and maths (105) are both above the national baseline of 100, suggesting that many children are making solid progress even if the combined headline figure lags slightly. The proportion reaching the higher standard in reading (36 per cent) and maths (30 per cent) is respectable, and 19 per cent hit the higher bar in writing. With 21.5 per cent of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a more disadvantaged intake than many of its neighbours, which puts the results in a fairer light.

Ofsted visited in May 2025 and rated the school Good across every category: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. This is a clean sweep of Good grades, and the report notes that the school has held a Good rating since at least its previous inspection in 2011. Parent feedback is overwhelmingly positive. In the Parent View survey covering September 2024 to September 2025, 98 per cent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy at the school, and 100 per cent felt their child is safe. Ninety-one per cent would recommend the school to other parents. The strongest areas of agreement were around safety and happiness, though a small minority expressed concerns about how SEND support is delivered — 20 per cent disagreed that children with special educational needs get the help they need, which is worth noting for families with SEND children.

The school is oversubscribed: for 2025/26 entry, it received 192 applications for 89 places, a ratio of 2.16 applicants per place, and all 87 first-preference applicants were offered a spot. Facilities are strong for a primary, with a sports hall, gymnasium, forest school, library, art studios, playing fields and an outdoor playground. Clubs include gardening, drama, coding, choir, book club and film club, and the school offers swimming, netball, football, gymnastics and rounders. SEND provision covers dyslexia, moderate learning difficulties, social and emotional mental health needs, speech and language needs, and autistic spectrum disorder. The school also has a nursery. For families who value a large, well-equipped primary with a Good Ofsted rating and a warm parent community, Mawney is a solid choice, though those prioritising top-decile academic outcomes may want to look at the higher-ranked schools nearby.
