About St Peter's Collegiate Academy

St Peter's Collegiate Academy has turned a corner. In its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2025, the school was awarded a Good rating across all five graded categories — quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision. That marks a clear improvement from its previous graded inspection in 2022, when it was rated Requires Improvement overall. The most telling academic metric is Progress 8, which measures how much pupils improve between the end of primary school and their GCSEs. St Peter's scored -0.15, which places it in the 'Average' band nationally. That's slightly below the Wolverhampton local authority average of -0.06, but the school ranks 11th out of 21 secondary schools in the area, putting it just inside the top half. With 1,306 pupils on roll and a Church of England character, it's a large, inclusive comprehensive that has clearly made strides in recent years.

At GCSE, the school's Attainment 8 score sits at 46.9, and just under 70 per cent of pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths — the basics measure. However, when you look at the stronger grade 5 or above threshold, that figure drops to 46.3 per cent. The EBacc entry rate is relatively low at 18.5 per cent, and only 9.3 per cent of pupils achieved the EBacc at grade 4 or above. In the sixth form, the picture is more mixed. The school's A-level value added score is -0.14, which is classed as 'Below average', and the average points per entry is 26.08, equivalent to a C- grade. The best three A-levels average out at a C grade. On the plus side, 10 per cent of entries achieved grades AAB or higher. The sixth form itself was rated Good by Ofsted, and with 113 pupils in the data, it's a sizeable provision.

The school is heavily oversubscribed: for 2025/26 entry, there were 556 applications for 216 places, a ratio of 2.57 applicants per place, and 116 first-preference offers were made from 124 first-preference applications. That suggests strong local demand. Facilities include a chapel, science labs, art studios, a sixth-form centre, and an astro turf pitch, with sports ranging from rowing to martial arts. The school lists nine SEND provisions, covering areas from dyslexia to autistic spectrum disorder and physical disability. Parent View responses from 80 families show 69 per cent would recommend the school, and 80 per cent agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy. However, only 63 per cent felt concerns are dealt with properly, and 32 per cent disagreed that SEND children get the support they need — a notable split. This is a school that suits families looking for a large, improving Church of England secondary with a strong sixth form, but one where SEND support and communication around learning may need closer attention.
