About Shotton Hall Primary School
Shotton Hall Primary School is a state primary in County Durham that is currently running at full capacity, with 351 pupils on roll against a school capacity of 350. The school serves a community with a notably higher-than-average proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals, at 28.5 per cent, compared with the national primary average of around 23 per cent. Demand for places is strong: for the 2025/26 intake, the school received 123 applications for just 50 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 2.46. Of those, 58 families put Shotton Hall as their first preference, and all 50 first-preference offers were taken up. The school is non-denominational, with no religious character, and is led by headteacher Joanne Leah Morgan. Its most recent Ofsted inspection, an ungraded visit in January 2025, confirmed that standards are being maintained at Good, the same rating it received in its previous graded inspection in 2016, when it was upgraded from Requires Improvement.
Academically, Shotton Hall’s Key Stage 2 results for 2023/24 show a mixed picture. The proportion of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined was 58 per cent, slightly below the local authority average of 62 per cent. In individual subjects, 73 per cent met the expected standard in reading, 67 per cent in writing, and 75 per cent in maths. At the higher standard, 8 per cent of pupils achieved the top level across all three subjects. Average scaled scores were 105 in reading and 103 in maths. Nationally, the school ranks in the bottom half of primary schools on the combined expected standard metric, sitting at the 62nd percentile. Within County Durham, it ranks 107th out of 170 primary schools. Parent feedback from the Ofsted Parent View survey, based on 47 responses, is largely positive: 85 per cent of parents strongly agreed or agreed that their child is happy, and 85 per cent felt the same about safety.
The school offers a solid range of facilities including a library, gymnasium, playing fields, ICT suite and a chapel. Sports provision covers netball, tennis, dance, athletics, cross country, gymnastics and swimming, while clubs include science, chess and art. For children with additional needs, the school lists support for moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, visual impairment, multi-sensory impairment and autistic spectrum disorder. However, the Parent View data on SEND support is more divided: 42 per cent strongly agreed that the school gives SEND children the support they need, but 25 per cent strongly disagreed, and 8 per cent disagreed. With oversubscription running at more than two applications per place, families considering Shotton Hall should be prepared for a competitive admissions process. The school is best suited to families in the Peterlee area who want a Good-rated, full-capacity primary with strong parent satisfaction on happiness and safety, and who value a broad extracurricular offer.

No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
