About Rowdown Primary School
Rowdown Primary School’s headline Key Stage 2 results sit well below the Croydon local authority average, which is a significant point to weigh up. In the 2023/24 academic year, just 46% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a LA average of 66%. That puts the school in the bottom half of primary schools in Croydon, ranked 71st out of 77. The gap is even starker at the higher end: no pupils achieved the higher standard in all three subjects, and only 8% did so in maths, 21% in reading and 15% in writing. Average scores tell a similar story — 99 in maths and 101 in reading — both below national norms. However, these figures need to be seen in context: over half of pupils are eligible for free school meals, a much higher proportion than most schools in the borough, which often correlates with lower headline attainment.
Despite the academic results, Rowdown’s most recent Ofsted inspection in March 2025 painted a more nuanced picture. The school was not given an overall effectiveness grade — inspectors judged it under the new framework — but every individual area was rated Good, and personal development was rated Outstanding. That’s a notable upgrade from the previous inspection in 2019, when personal development was also Good. Behaviour and attitudes, leadership, the quality of education and early years provision all remain Good. Parent feedback is broadly positive: 94% of respondents said their child is happy, 92% said they feel safe, and 86% would recommend the school. On SEND support, 87% agreed or strongly agreed that children get the help they need, though a small minority expressed concerns about how complaints are handled.
Rowdown is a three-form entry primary with a nursery, and it’s oversubscribed: for 2025/26, there were 67 applications for 29 places, with 26 first-preference offers made. The school has a strong set of facilities including a sensory room, forest school, music rooms and a chapel, plus sports like cricket, swimming and tennis. Clubs cover drama, eco, gardening and book club. SEND provision is broad, covering dyslexia, moderate learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and autistic spectrum disorder, with a resourced provision on site. This is a school that clearly serves a high-needs community — half its pupils are on free school meals — and while academic outcomes are below the LA average, the strong personal development rating and positive parent views suggest it offers a supportive, inclusive environment for families who prioritise wellbeing alongside academic progress.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
