About Roman Hill Primary School

Of the 40 parents who responded to Ofsted's Parent View survey between September 2024 and September 2025, 57% said they would recommend Roman Hill Primary School to other parents. That's a fairly mixed picture, and it's reflected in the school's oversubscription data: for 2025/26 entry, the school received 42 applications for 36 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 1.17. Of those, 35 were first-preference applications, and 35 first-preference offers were made. So while the school is technically oversubscribed, the numbers suggest it's not a fierce scramble for places. The parent survey reveals some real splits: 80% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy, and 76% agreed their child does well. But only 53% felt the school makes them aware of what their child will learn, and just 68% felt concerns are dealt with properly. On behaviour, 58% agreed the school ensures good behaviour, while 43% disagreed or strongly disagreed.

Academically, Roman Hill's Key Stage 2 results for 2023/24 place it well below both local and national averages. Just 36% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with the Suffolk local authority average of 58%. That puts the school 65th out of 72 primary schools in East Suffolk, and in the bottom 50% nationally. In individual subjects, 66% met the expected standard in reading, 65% in writing, and 50% in maths. Higher-attaining pupils are scarce: only 18% achieved a higher standard in reading, 9% in maths, and just 1% in writing. No pupils reached the higher standard in all three subjects. The school's most recent graded Ofsted inspection, in November 2024, rated overall effectiveness as 'requires improvement', though this was a monitoring visit rather than a full graded inspection. The previous full inspection in April 2022 rated the school 'inadequate' across all areas.

The school has a wide range of facilities including a library, sports hall, playing fields, sensory room, forest school, music rooms and even a chapel. It offers clubs in eco, drama and science, plus sports including football, netball, cricket, swimming and athletics. SEND provision is broad, covering specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulty, social and emotional mental health, speech and language needs, hearing and visual impairment, physical disability, and autistic spectrum disorder. With 50.4% of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a significantly disadvantaged community. For families considering Roman Hill, the nearest outstanding-rated primary is Woods Loke Primary School, 1.5 km away. The school has nursery provision for children from age 3, and its capacity of 525 currently holds 430 pupils, so there is some room. This is a school that may suit families who value its broad SEND support and facilities, but who are realistic about its current academic and Ofsted trajectory.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
