About Roding Primary School
Roding Primary School sits within the Redbridge local authority, a London borough with 53 primary schools where 12 currently hold an Ofsted Outstanding rating. The school itself ranks 29th out of 50 primaries in the LA on the key stage 2 expected standard measure, placing it just below the midpoint. The top-performing peers in the borough are Al-Noor Voluntary Aided Muslim Primary School, St Bede's Catholic Primary School, and Our Lady of Lourdes RC Primary School, all of which score higher on the same ranking metric. The nearest Outstanding-rated school is Ray Lodge Primary School, less than a kilometre away. Roding is a state-funded, mixed-gender primary for ages 3 to 11, with no religious character. It has a nursery provision and currently accommodates 444 pupils against a capacity of 480, with 19.6 per cent of children eligible for free school meals.
In its most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024, Roding Primary was judged Good overall, with personal development rated Outstanding. The early years provision, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management all received Good grades. This represents a consistent performance compared with its previous 2015 inspection, which also rated overall effectiveness as Good. At key stage 2 in the 2023/24 academic year, 72 per cent of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, slightly below the Redbridge LA average of 74 per cent. Individual subject scores were solid: average scaled scores of 105 in both reading and maths, with 77 per cent reaching the expected standard in maths and writing, and 75 per cent in reading. At the higher standard, 22 per cent achieved in maths and 30 per cent in reading, though only 5 per cent reached the higher threshold across all three subjects.
The school is oversubscribed for 2025/26, with 113 applications for 57 places and 41 first-preference offers, giving a ratio of nearly two applicants per place. Facilities include a sensory room, forest school area, art studios, a dining hall and a chapel. Sports on offer are athletics, netball, gymnastics and tennis, while clubs range from film and book club to choir, gardening and drama. SEND provisions cover a broad spectrum, including support for autistic spectrum disorder, speech and language communication needs, hearing impairment, and social, emotional and mental health needs, plus a resourced provision. Parent View responses from 44 families between September 2024 and September 2025 showed 86 per cent would recommend the school, with strong majorities agreeing their child is happy and feels safe. However, the SEND support question drew a more mixed response, with 30 per cent disagreeing that the school gives SEND children the support they need, compared with 40 per cent agreeing or strongly agreeing.
