About Newbottle and Charlton Church of England Primary School
Newbottle and Charlton Church of England Primary School has undergone a notable turnaround. In its most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was judged to be Good overall, a significant improvement from its previous rating of Requires Improvement. The inspection report, published in September 2025, awarded Good marks for the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management, and the early years provision. Personal development was singled out as Outstanding. This is a small primary school in West Northamptonshire with just 99 pupils on roll, and the data suggests it is a place where children feel safe and happy. In the Parent View survey, 92% of respondents strongly agreed that their child feels safe, and 83% strongly agreed that their child is happy. The school is oversubscribed for the 2025/26 academic year, with 26 applications for 15 places, and 18 of those were first preferences.
Academically, the picture is mixed. At Key Stage 2, 53% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, which is below the local authority average of 63%. The school’s ranking in West Northamptonshire places it in the bottom half of primary schools, at 106th out of 147. However, there are bright spots. In reading, 80% of pupils reached the expected standard, and 20% achieved a higher standard. The average reading score was 107, which is above the national benchmark of 100. In writing, 73% met the expected standard and 13% reached the higher standard. Maths was weaker, with 53% at the expected standard and an average score of 100. No pupils achieved the higher standard in maths. The school does not have data on pupil progress, so it is difficult to say how much value it adds, but the reading results are clearly a strength.
The school offers a range of facilities including playing fields, an ICT suite, a library, music rooms and a chapel. Sports provision includes tennis, swimming, netball, cricket, cross country, football and athletics, and there are clubs for drama, choir, chess, science and art. For families with children who have special educational needs, the school lists provisions for specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, and physical disabilities. The Parent View data is very positive on this front: 80% of respondents strongly agreed that the school gives SEND children the support they need. With a low percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals (6.1%), the school may suit families looking for a small, Church of England village primary with strong pastoral care and a good record on behaviour and personal development, but who are prepared to look beyond headline exam results.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
