About Netherton Moss Primary School
Netherton Moss Primary School’s headline KS2 results sit well below the Sefton local authority average, which is a key point for parents to weigh up. In the 2023/24 academic year, just 42% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a 59% LA average for primary schools. That puts the school in the bottom half of Sefton’s 74 primary schools, ranked 51st, and in the bottom 10% nationally. The picture is mixed when you look at individual subjects: 61% reached the expected level in reading and 58% in maths, but writing lagged at 48%. No pupils achieved the higher standard in reading, writing and maths together, though 23% did hit the higher bar in reading. The school’s maths average score was exactly 100, with reading slightly higher at 102. These figures suggest that while some pupils are doing fine, the school has significant ground to make up on the LA average.
Ofsted’s most recent inspection, in January 2025, rated the school as Requires Improvement overall, a downgrade from its previous Good rating in 2015. The inspection found quality of education, early years provision, and leadership and management all require improvement, but behaviour and attitudes and personal development were both judged Good. Parent feedback from the Parent View survey, collected between September 2024 and September 2025, tells a more positive story: 89% of the 19 respondents would recommend the school, and strong majorities agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy (95%), feels safe (95%), and does well (95%). However, only 47% strongly agreed that the school has high expectations for their child, and 16% disagreed with that statement. The school’s Progress 8 scores are not available, so it’s hard to measure how much value the school adds beyond raw attainment.
Netherton Moss is a state primary for mixed genders aged 3 to 11, with a nursery on site. It’s oversubscribed: for 2025/26, there were 57 applications for 30 places, with 36 first-preference applications and 30 first-preference offers, giving a ratio of 1.9 applicants per place. The school serves a community with high disadvantage — 57.4% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, well above the national average. Facilities include a sports hall, sensory room, library, dining hall and chapel, and the school offers clubs in science, coding and gardening, plus sports including swimming, netball, football and tennis. SEND provision covers specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulty, social and emotional mental health, speech and language needs, visual impairment and autistic spectrum disorder. For families who prioritise a strong sense of safety and happiness over headline academic scores, and who value the school’s inclusive SEND offer and nursery provision, Netherton Moss could be a good fit — but the academic results and Ofsted rating are clear areas of concern.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
