About Mansel Park Primary & Nursery School - Part of the Learning Federation Partnership of Schools

Mansel Park Primary & Nursery School has been rated Good overall by Ofsted following its most recent graded inspection, but the detail tells a more interesting story. Leadership and management were judged Outstanding, and early years provision was rated Outstanding too, which is a significant improvement from the previous inspection when the school was graded Requires Improvement overall. On the academic front, the most telling metric is the proportion of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, which stands at 88 per cent. That figure places Mansel Park first out of 42 primary schools in the Southampton local authority, putting it in the top five per cent nationally. It also sits well above the local authority average of 55 per cent for the same combined measure, so the school is clearly delivering strong results for its pupils.

Looking more closely at the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 results, the school’s performance is consistently strong across individual subjects. In reading, 91 per cent of pupils reached the expected standard and 53 per cent achieved the higher standard, with an average score of 110. Maths saw 91 per cent at the expected level and 41 per cent at the higher level, with an average score of 109. Writing was slightly lower but still solid, with 88 per cent at the expected standard and 16 per cent at the higher level. The school’s ranking score of 88, based on the combined expected standard, puts it ahead of local peers like Springhill Catholic Primary School and Sinclair Primary. It also ranks 61st in the South East region out of over 2,000 schools, and 489th nationally out of nearly 14,000, which is a strong showing for a state primary with a high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals at 52.9 per cent.

The school is oversubscribed, with 67 applications for 33 places in the 2025/26 intake, and 28 of those were first-preference offers. Facilities include a Forest School, sensory room, music rooms, art studios and an ICT suite, and there are clubs such as coding, eco club and art club. The school’s SEND provisions cover a wide range of needs, including autistic spectrum disorder, speech and language communication needs, and social, emotional and mental health support. Parent views are generally positive, with 83 per cent of respondents saying they would recommend the school, though the SEND support question showed a more mixed response, with 38 per cent strongly agreeing but 25 per cent strongly disagreeing. This is a school that suits families who value strong academic outcomes and a leadership team that has clearly driven improvement, but it is worth noting the high demand for places and the mixed feedback on SEND provision.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
