About Lewannick Community Primary School
Lewannick Community Primary School has been rated Good across all areas in its most recent Ofsted inspection, a significant improvement from its previous Requires Improvement rating. The inspection, which took place in 2025, awarded Good marks for quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. However, the school’s academic outcomes at Key Stage 2 tell a more complicated story. Just 33% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, well below the Cornwall local authority average of 58%. This places Lewannick in the bottom 50 nationally for this metric, ranking 194th out of 208 primary schools in Cornwall. Individual subject scores were mixed: 67% reached the expected level in maths, with an average scaled score of 103, while reading and writing both sat at 44% expected. Only 11% of pupils achieved a higher standard in reading, and none did so in maths or writing.
Despite the modest exam results, the school’s parent view survey tells a more positive story. 96% of parents would recommend the school, and responses were overwhelmingly positive on wellbeing: 96% strongly agreed or agreed that their child is happy, and the same proportion felt their child is safe. Behaviour is seen as a strength, with 93% agreeing the school ensures pupils are well behaved, and 82% said bullying was not applicable to their child. Parents also felt the school has high expectations (86% agreed) and that their child does well (96% agreed). The survey, based on 28 responses collected between September 2024 and September 2025, showed particularly strong satisfaction with clubs and activities, where 71% strongly agreed their child can take part. The school offers a range of clubs including film, drama, science and art, plus sports such as athletics, swimming, football, cricket and rounders.
Lewannick is a small village primary with 92 pupils on roll against a capacity of 119, and it is oversubscribed for 2025/26: 9 applications for 5 places, with all 5 first-preference applicants offered a spot. The school has nursery provision for children aged 2 and above, and its facilities include an outdoor playground, playing fields, a gymnasium, a forest school and a chapel. It supports pupils with specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, social, emotional and mental health needs, and speech, language and communication needs. With 23.9% of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a community with above-average disadvantage. This is a school that parents value for its nurturing atmosphere and strong pastoral care, but those prioritising top-tier academic results at Key Stage 2 may want to look at higher-performing schools in the county, such as Calstock or Landewednack.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
