About Houghton Regis Primary School

Ofsted’s Parent View survey, completed by 74 respondents between September 2024 and September 2025, shows that 86% of parents would recommend Houghton Regis Primary School to other families. That’s a strong signal of overall satisfaction, and it’s backed up by some very positive individual scores: 93% of parents agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy at the school, and 93% said their child does well there. On safety, 93% felt their child is safe. The school is clearly popular locally too — for Reception places in 2025/26, it received 99 applications for 44 places, making it oversubscribed by a ratio of 2.25 to one. Of those, 56 were first-preference applications, and 41 first-preference offers were made. So while demand is high, a first-preference application gives you a decent chance. The headteacher is Rajneet Parmar, and the school is a mixed, non-religious state primary for children aged 3 to 11, with a nursery on site.

Academically, the picture is more mixed. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 tests, 59% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. That’s above the Central Bedfordshire local authority average of 54%, and places the school 14th out of 34 primaries in the LA. Nationally, it sits in the 59th percentile. However, the proportion reaching the higher standard in all three subjects was just 4%, and only 6% did so in writing. Reading and maths average scores were 104 and 102 respectively. The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection, in July 2025, judged it as Requires Improvement overall, though leadership and management were rated Good. The previous inspection in 2019 had rated the school Good overall. The inspection report noted that behaviour and attitudes, personal development, early years provision and the quality of education all require improvement, so parents considering the school will want to look closely at how these areas are being addressed.

The school offers a decent range of facilities, including a sensory room, ICT suite, forest school area, sports hall and a chapel. Sports on offer include football, gymnastics, cricket, swimming, dance and cross country, while clubs include eco club, gardening, science club, film club and art club. SEND provision covers specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulty, social emotional and mental health needs, speech language and communication needs, physical disability and autistic spectrum disorder. However, the Parent View data on SEND support is a concern: of the 15% of respondents with SEND children, 54% disagreed or strongly disagreed that the school gives them the support they need. With 18.1% of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a relatively diverse intake. For families who value a strong parent community and a school that is clearly in demand locally, Houghton Regis Primary is worth a visit — but the Requires Improvement rating and SEND feedback mean it’s worth asking searching questions on a tour.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
