About High Bank Junior Infant and Nursery School
Parents at High Bank Junior Infant and Nursery School are overwhelmingly positive about their experience. In the most recent Parent View survey, covering September 2024 to September 2025, 95% of respondents said they would recommend the school to other parents. The feedback is particularly strong on happiness and safety: every parent agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy at the school, and every parent agreed or strongly agreed that their child feels safe. The school is also popular locally — for the 2025/26 academic year, it received 24 applications for 16 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 1.5. Fifteen of those applications were first-preference choices, and all 15 received offers. Parents also feel well-informed, with 100% agreeing or strongly agreeing that the school lets them know how their child is doing and that it has high expectations for their child. The only area where a small minority expressed dissatisfaction was around how concerns are dealt with, where 11% disagreed that they are handled properly.
Academically, High Bank performs solidly against local and national benchmarks. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 assessments, 64% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. That puts the school above the Kirklees local authority average of 60% and places it 39th out of 94 primary schools in the area, within the top half. Looking at individual subjects, reading is a relative strength: 79% of pupils met the expected standard and 50% achieved a higher standard. Maths scores were also strong, with an average scaled score of 104 and 71% reaching the expected level. Writing was more mixed — 71% met the expected standard but only 7% reached the higher standard. The school’s most recent graded Ofsted inspection, in 2016, rated it Good overall, with Good for leadership and management and Good for early years provision. A subsequent ungraded inspection in October 2024 confirmed that standards are being maintained.
The school offers a range of facilities and activities that support both academic and personal development. On site there is a sensory room, a forest school area, a gymnasium, an ICT suite, art studios, music rooms and a library. Pupils can choose from clubs including science, coding, gardening, chess and art, and take part in sports such as football, netball, cricket, rounders and cross country. The school also has a nursery provision for children from age three. For families with children who have additional needs, High Bank has SEND provision for moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, multi-sensory impairment and autistic spectrum disorder. With 46% of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a diverse community. Given its strong parent satisfaction, above-average KS2 results and oversubscribed places, this is a school that suits families who value a supportive primary experience within a popular local setting.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
