About Heygreen Primary School

Heygreen Primary School sits within the Liverpool local authority, where it ranks 37th out of 102 primary schools based on the proportion of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at key stage 2. That places it comfortably in the top half of the city’s primary schools. The top-performing peers in the area are Sudley Primary School, Bishop Martin Church of England Primary School in Woolton, and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School, all of which score higher on the same metric. Heygreen is a state-funded, mixed-gender primary school with a nursery provision, catering for children from age 2 to 11. It has no religious character. The school is led by headteacher Nicola Rutter and currently has 242 pupils on roll, which is above its official capacity of 210. A significant 76.6% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, well above the national average, reflecting the school’s role in a community with higher-than-average deprivation.

In its most recent Ofsted inspection in March 2025, Heygreen was judged Good overall, but the detail is striking: inspectors rated behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management all as Outstanding, while early years provision was also Outstanding. The quality of education was rated Good. This represents a clear improvement from the previous inspection in 2018, which also rated the school Good but with no Outstanding grades. At key stage 2 in 2023/24, 65% of pupils achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, compared with the Liverpool local authority average of 59%. The school’s average scores in reading and maths were both 104, and 17% of pupils reached the higher standard in all three subjects. In maths, 30% achieved the higher standard, and in reading 26% did. The school ranks in the top 50% nationally and in the top 50% within the North West region.

The school is clearly popular with local families: for 2025/26 admissions, it received 48 applications for 28 places, making it oversubscribed with a ratio of 1.71 applicants per place. Of the 31 first-preference applications, 27 were offered a place. Parents who responded to the Ofsted Parent View survey were unanimously positive — 100% said they would recommend the school, and responses showed very high levels of agreement that children are happy, safe, and doing well. The school offers a range of facilities including a forest school, sensory room, art studios, music rooms, and a chapel. Sports include football, gymnastics, cricket, netball and rounders, and there are clubs for drama, eco activities and book club. SEND provision covers specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, social and emotional mental health needs, speech and language needs, visual impairment, and autistic spectrum disorder. This is a school that serves a high-needs community with strong pastoral care and a clear track record of academic improvement.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
