About Haseltine Primary School
Haseltine Primary School’s headline Key Stage 2 result sits well below the Lewisham average for primary schools. The combined proportion of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths is 51 per cent, compared with a local authority average of 64 per cent. That gap of 13 percentage points places the school 51st out of 59 primaries in the borough, firmly in the bottom half. But the picture is not uniformly weak. In reading, 75 per cent of pupils met the expected standard, comfortably above the national benchmark, and the average scaled score of 105 is solid. Maths is also respectable, with 67 per cent reaching the expected level and an average score of 103. The real drag comes from writing, where only 57 per cent hit the expected standard, and from the very low proportion of pupils — just 6 per cent — who achieved the higher standard across all three subjects. So while the school isn’t struggling across the board, the combined figure puts it behind most of its Lewisham peers.
The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection, in March 2023, rated it Good overall, with two standout judgements: Outstanding for early years provision and Outstanding for personal development. Behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management, and the quality of education were all judged Good. That’s an improvement on the previous inspection in 2017, which also gave a Good overall rating but rated early years as Requires Improvement. The progress scores for Key Stage 2 are not available in the data, so it’s hard to say how much value the school adds relative to pupils’ starting points, but the attainment figures suggest that reading and maths are relative strengths. At the higher end, 20 per cent of pupils achieved a high score in maths and 18 per cent in reading, though only 8 per cent did so in writing. The school’s ranking in the bottom 50 per cent nationally reflects the combined measure, but parents should look beyond that single number.
Haseltine is a three-form entry primary with a nursery, and it’s clearly popular: for 2025/26 admissions, it received 113 applications for 42 places, with 38 first-preference offers made. That oversubscription ratio of 2.69 means competition is real, so families need to be prepared. The school has a broad range of facilities including a library, art studios, a forest school, a sensory room and an ICT suite, plus a chapel. Sports provision covers football, netball, gymnastics, swimming and cross country, and there are clubs for drama, choir, art, coding and science. SEND support is extensive, covering moderate learning difficulties, speech and language needs, hearing and visual impairments, autistic spectrum disorder and social, emotional and mental health needs. With 32.6 per cent of pupils eligible for free school meals, the school serves a diverse catchment. It’s a good fit for families who value strong early years and personal development, and who are comfortable with a school that performs around the middle of the pack academically but offers a wide range of enrichment.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
