About Greenmount Primary School
Greenmount Primary School on the Isle of Wight was rated Requires Improvement in its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2023, a downgrade from the Good rating it received in its previous inspection. The inspection found that while pupils' personal development and behaviour and attitudes were both Good, the quality of education, leadership and management, and early years provision all required improvement. On the key academic measure for primary schools — the percentage of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined — Greenmount achieved 53% in the 2023/24 academic year. That is just one percentage point above the Isle of Wight local authority average of 52%, placing the school 15th out of 35 primary schools in the area. Nationally, it sits in the bottom 50% of schools on this metric, ranking 10,016th out of 13,686 primaries. The school's average scores in reading (102) and maths (101) are both close to the national benchmark of 100, but the proportion of pupils reaching the higher standard across all three subjects is just 7%.
Looking more closely at the individual subject results, 69% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, 62% in maths, and 76% in writing — the latter being the strongest area. However, the proportion reaching the higher standard in writing was only 9%, and in maths 17%, suggesting that while most children are keeping up, fewer are exceeding expectations. The school has a relatively high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals at 31.1%, which is well above the national average and may partly explain the dip in outcomes. Ofsted noted that leadership and management required improvement, and the early years provision was also rated as Requires Improvement, which will be a key focus for headteacher Rebecca Day. The school does not have a sixth form, as it is a primary, and offers nursery provision for children from age two.
Greenmount is a mixed, non-religious state primary school with a capacity of 432 pupils but currently has 318 on roll, so there is some room for growth. It was oversubscribed for the 2025/26 intake, receiving 40 applications for 22 places, with all 22 first-preference applicants offered a spot. The school offers a wide range of facilities including a library, gymnasium, sports hall, sensory room, ICT suite, music rooms, forest school and even a chapel. Sports on offer include swimming, gymnastics, netball, dance, rounders and tennis, and there are clubs for science, gardening and art. The school has a strong SEND provision, with support for moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language difficulties, hearing impairment, autistic spectrum disorder, and a resourced provision. This makes it a potentially good fit for families who value a broad range of facilities and specialist support, particularly those whose children have additional needs.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
