About Edwalton Primary School
Edwalton Primary School is a state primary in Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, and it is heavily oversubscribed. For the 2025/26 intake, the school received 222 applications for just 44 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 5.05. Of those, 41 were first-preference applications, and 41 first-preference offers were made. The school is running very close to capacity, with 409 pupils on roll against a published capacity of 420. Its pupil premium indicator, measured by the percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals, stands at 16.4 per cent. That is a useful figure for context, though the data does not include a local authority average for comparison. The school is mixed, non-denominational, and serves the 5–11 age range. Headteacher Daniel Graney leads a school that clearly commands strong local demand, and the numbers suggest that securing a place is far from guaranteed for families outside the immediate catchment.
Academically, Edwalton performs solidly against national benchmarks, though it sits in the middle of the Rushcliffe local authority rankings. In the 2023/24 KS2 results, 66 per cent of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. That is five percentage points above the Nottinghamshire LA average of 61 per cent. At the higher standard, 24 per cent achieved that combined measure. In individual subjects, maths was a relative strength: 86 per cent reached the expected standard and 42 per cent hit the higher threshold, with an average scaled score of 107. Reading and writing were a little lower, with 78 per cent and 80 per cent at expected standard respectively. Nationally, the school ranks in the 42nd percentile, and within the East Midlands it sits in the 37th percentile. In its most recent graded Ofsted inspection in November 2019, the school was rated Good overall, with Outstanding for personal development. An ungraded inspection in April 2025 confirmed that standards are being maintained.
The school offers a broad range of facilities including a sports hall, library, ICT suite, art studios, music rooms and playing fields. Sports on offer include football, cricket, swimming and gymnastics, and there are clubs such as choir, drama, science club and eco club. For SEND, the school lists provisions for specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, and autistic spectrum disorder. Parent View responses, collected between September 2024 and September 2025, were overwhelmingly positive: 96 per cent of the 113 respondents would recommend the school. Strong majorities strongly agreed that their child is happy and feels safe. The one area where opinion was more divided was SEND support, where 28 per cent disagreed that the school gives SEND children the support they need, compared with 72 per cent who agreed or strongly agreed. This is a popular, well-regarded local primary that suits families who value strong personal development and a good range of activities, but competition for places is fierce.
