About Edisford Primary School

Edisford Primary School is a state primary in the Lancashire local authority, sitting within the Ribble Valley borough. Among the 480 primary schools in Lancashire, it ranks 64th overall, placing it comfortably in the top tier of schools in the county. Within its immediate Ribble Valley area, it ranks 8th out of 25 primary schools, putting it in the top 32% locally. The top-performing peers in the same local authority include Crawford Village Primary School, New Longton All Saints CofE Primary School, and St George's Church of England Primary School in Chorley, all of which score higher on the same ranking metric. Edisford is a mixed, non-denominational school for children aged 4 to 11, with a headteacher, Elizabeth Hamilton-Thorpe, leading a school that is slightly oversubscribed: for 30 places in the 2025/26 intake, the school received 78 applications, with 27 offers going to first-preference families.

Academically, Edisford performs well above the Lancashire average. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 results, 77% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a local authority average of 60%. The school also achieved strong scores in individual subjects: 83% of pupils met the expected standard in reading and in maths, and 86% in writing. At the higher standard, 11% of pupils achieved the top level across all three subjects. Average scaled scores were 105 in both reading and maths. Ofsted’s most recent graded inspection in 2020 rated the school Good overall, with Outstanding marks for personal development and for behaviour and attitudes. An ungraded inspection in March 2025 confirmed that standards are being maintained. The previous graded inspection in 2008 had rated the school Outstanding overall, so the current Good rating represents a slight step down, but the school continues to perform strongly.

The school offers a range of facilities including a library, art studios, music rooms, a sensory room, a dining hall, a forest school and a chapel. Sports on offer include football, rounders, cricket, dance and athletics, while clubs cover drama, gardening, coding and art. SEND provision is in place for children with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, moderate learning difficulties, speech, language and communication needs, visual impairment, and autistic spectrum disorder. Parent View responses from 84 families between September 2024 and September 2025 were largely positive: 89% of parents strongly agreed or agreed that their child is happy at the school, and 88% felt their child does well. 82% would recommend the school to other parents. With an oversubscription ratio of 2.6 applicants per place, Edisford is a popular choice for families in the Ribble Valley who want a well-regarded primary with strong academic outcomes and a broad range of activities.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
