About Driffield School and Sixth Form

Ofsted's Parent View survey, which ran from September 2024 to September 2025 and collected 252 responses, shows that 61% of parents would recommend Driffield School and Sixth Form to others. That's a solid majority, though it leaves over a third who wouldn't. The picture is mixed when you dig into the detail: 67% of parents agree or strongly agree that their child is happy, and 65% feel their child is safe. However, behaviour is a more contentious point — only 54% agree the school ensures good behaviour, while 43% disagree. On the plus side, 87% of parents feel the school offers a good range of subjects, and 89% say their child can take part in clubs and activities. The school is slightly oversubscribed for Year 7 entry in 2025/26, with 252 applications for 232 places and 229 first-preference offers, giving an oversubscription ratio of 1.09. That suggests it's a popular choice locally, though not fiercely competitive.

Academically, Driffield's results are a mixed bag. At GCSE, the school's Progress 8 score of -0.2 is below the national average and also below the East Riding of Yorkshire local authority average of -0.13. That places it 9th out of 18 secondary schools in the LA, right in the middle of the pack. The Attainment 8 score is 43.3, and 58.2% of pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths. The EBacc entry rate is 47.4%, with 22.3% achieving the full EBacc at grade 4 or above. At A-level, the picture is brighter: the school's value-added score of 0.31 is rated 'Above average', and the average points per entry is 36.06, equivalent to a B- grade. The best three A-levels average out at a B- as well, and 21.6% of entries achieved AAB or higher. So while GCSE progress lags behind, the sixth form is a genuine strength.

The school is a large secondary with 1,404 pupils against a capacity of 1,992, so there's room to grow. Facilities include a sixth form centre, science labs, art studios, an astro turf, tennis courts and playing fields, plus a chapel. Sports on offer range from rowing and swimming to rugby and dance, and there are clubs including DofE, Young Enterprise, orchestra and coding. The school has a wide range of SEND provisions, covering dyslexia, moderate learning difficulties, social and emotional mental health, speech and language needs, hearing impairment, physical disability and autistic spectrum disorder. However, the Parent View data on SEND support is notably split: 46% of parents agree the school gives SEND children the support they need, but 53% disagree. This is a school that suits families who value a strong sixth form and a broad extracurricular offer, but who are comfortable with a secondary that is still working on behaviour and SEND support.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
