About Danetree Primary School
Danetree Primary School in Epsom and Ewell is a popular choice among local families, with 80% of parents who responded to the Ofsted Parent View survey saying they would recommend the school. That survey, which ran between September 2024 and September 2025, collected 312 responses and showed particularly strong satisfaction around communication: 95% of parents agreed or strongly agreed that the school makes them aware of what their child will learn, and 90% felt the school lets them know how their child is doing. The school is clearly in demand — for the 2025/26 intake, it received 220 applications for 106 places, an oversubscription ratio of 2.08, and all 104 first-preference applicants were offered a spot. Parents also reported high levels of happiness among children, with 90% agreeing or strongly agreeing that their child is happy at the school, and 87% saying their child feels safe.
Academically, Danetree performs well above the local Surrey average. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 results, 69% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with the Surrey average of 66%. The school also excels at stretching its pupils: 7% achieved the higher standard in all three subjects, and in maths specifically, 34% of pupils reached the higher standard with an average scaled score of 107. Reading and writing scores were similarly strong, with 82% reaching the expected standard in reading and 76% in writing. The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection in December 2024 was an ungraded visit that confirmed standards are maintained, building on its Outstanding rating from the previous graded inspection in February 2019. In that 2019 inspection, leadership and management, early years provision, and overall effectiveness were all judged Outstanding.
The school is larger than average, with 943 pupils against a capacity of 840, and caters for children from age 2 through to 11, including nursery provision. Facilities include a library, music rooms, a gymnasium, and an outdoor playground, while the sports programme covers football, cricket, swimming, cross country, athletics, dance and rounders. There is also a good range of clubs, from chess and gardening to eco club and film club. For families with children who have special educational needs, Danetree lists support for a wide range of needs, including autistic spectrum disorder, speech and language communication needs, and social, emotional and mental health difficulties. However, the Parent View data shows some concern here: 43% of parents with SEND children disagreed or strongly disagreed that the school gives them the support they need, which is worth investigating further if this applies to your child.
