About Courthouse Junior School
Of the 98 parents who responded to Ofsted’s Parent View survey between September 2024 and September 2025, 72% said they would recommend Courthouse Junior School to other families. That’s a solid majority, though it leaves more than a quarter who wouldn’t. The school is popular enough to be nearly full — 352 pupils against a capacity of 360 — so oversubscription is tight but not extreme. On the specific questions, the strongest signals came from clubs and activities: 95% of parents agreed or strongly agreed their child could take part, and 86% felt their child was happy. Safety also scored well, with 89% agreeing their child feels safe. The weaker spots are worth noting: only 50% of parents felt concerns were dealt with properly, and just 50% agreed that SEND children get the support they need. That’s a significant minority of dissatisfied voices, and it’s the kind of split you’d want to explore on a visit.
Academically, Courthouse sits in a tricky position. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 tests, 39% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined — well below the local authority average of 64%. That places the school 27th out of 28 primaries in Windsor and Maidenhead, and in the bottom 8% nationally. Digging into the individual subjects, reading and maths scores are closer to the national average (106 and 104 respectively), and 79% hit the expected standard in reading. But writing is the real drag: only 42% reached the expected level, and just 1% achieved the higher standard. The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection, in February 2025, rated it Good overall, with Good for behaviour, personal development, leadership and quality of education. That’s an upgrade from its 2017 Requires Improvement rating, so the direction of travel is positive, but the exam results suggest there’s still ground to make up.
The school offers a decent range of facilities for a junior school — a sensory room, gymnasium, sports hall and outdoor playground — plus a chapel, which is unusual given its non-religious character. Clubs include coding, science, chess, choir, drama and eco club, and sports run to football, cricket, swimming and gymnastics. SEND provision is formally listed for dyslexia, speech and language needs, hearing impairment, autistic spectrum disorder and social/emotional/mental health, though parent feedback on SEND support is notably mixed. With 15.3% of pupils eligible for free school meals, the intake is slightly above the national average for primaries. This is a school that suits families who value a broad extracurricular offer and a Good Ofsted rating, but who are prepared to keep a close eye on academic progress, particularly in writing. The nearby outstanding alternative is St Edmund Campion, 1.4 km away, if that’s a live option.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
