About Colville Primary School

Colville Primary School sits within the Cambridgeshire local authority, a mixed state primary for ages 3 to 11 in Cambridge. In the most recent local rankings of primary schools by KS2 reading, writing and maths expected standards, it placed 114th out of 210 schools of the same type in the LA. The top-performing peers in the area include Histon and Impington Brook Primary School, Caldecote Primary School, and Abbots Ripton CofE Primary School, all of which achieved higher ranking scores. Colville’s own ranking score of 55 places it in the bottom 50% of schools nationally, and 21st out of 26 schools within the immediate Cambridge area. The school is led by headteacher Andrew Hastings and has a capacity of 210 pupils, though it currently accommodates 228, making it oversubscribed. In the 2025/26 admissions round, there were 47 applications for 19 places, with 16 first-preference offers made, giving an oversubscription ratio of 2.47.

In its most recent Ofsted inspection, carried out in December 2024 and published in January 2025, Colville was judged Good across all graded areas: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. This is consistent with its previous Good rating from 2015. At KS2 in the 2023/24 academic year, 55% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, slightly below the Cambridgeshire LA average of 58%. The school’s average scores were 105 in reading and 104 in maths. A higher proportion of pupils achieved the expected standard in reading (72%) and writing (72%) than in maths (69%). At the higher standard, 31% reached that level in reading, 17% in maths, and 7% in both writing and the combined measure. Progress scores were not available for any of the three subjects, so it is not possible to compare pupil progress against national averages.

The school offers a range of facilities including an outdoor playground, playing fields, a sensory room, forest school provision, and a chapel. Sports on offer include football, rounders, dance, netball, gymnastics and cross country, while clubs cover drama, choir and science club. SEND provisions are extensive, covering moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, hearing impairment, and autistic spectrum disorder, with a dedicated SEN unit. According to the Parent View survey, 93% of respondents would recommend the school, and 83% strongly agreed that their child is happy and feels safe. For SEND support specifically, 89% strongly agreed that the school gives the support needed. The school has nursery provision, making it a viable option for families looking for continuity from early years through to Year 6, though the oversubscription means early application is advisable.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
