About Co-op Academy Portland
Co-op Academy Portland in Wirral was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2025, a notable improvement from its previous Requires Improvement rating in 2023. The inspection judged all key areas as Good, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. However, the school’s academic outcomes tell a more challenging story. At Key Stage 2 in 2023/24, just 25% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a Wirral local authority average of 53%. This places the school 59th out of 64 primary schools in the borough, in the bottom 50 nationally. In individual subjects, 46% met the expected standard in reading, 33% in maths, and 67% in writing. Higher attainment was rare: 8% reached the higher standard in reading and 4% in writing, with none in maths.
Despite these results, parents are overwhelmingly positive. In the most recent Parent View survey, 92% of respondents would recommend the school. Strong majorities agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy (97%), feels safe (97%), and does well (94%). The school serves a community with high levels of disadvantage: 50% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, more than double the national average. The school has a nursery provision for children aged three and over, and its capacity of 210 is nearly full with 202 pupils on roll. For 2025/26 admissions, the school was oversubscribed, receiving 33 applications for 30 places, with 27 first-preference offers made.
Facilities include a dining hall, art studios, music rooms, playing fields, library and chapel. Sports on offer include cricket, athletics, dance, swimming, tennis, football and gymnastics, while clubs range from drama and choir to science, gardening, chess and eco club. The school provides support for a wide range of SEND needs, including autistic spectrum disorder, speech and language communication needs, social and emotional mental health, physical disability, and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. This is a school that has made clear progress in leadership and behaviour since its previous inspection, and while its academic results are below local averages, parents report high levels of satisfaction with their children’s happiness and personal development. It will particularly suit families who value a supportive, inclusive environment and are comfortable with a school that is still building its academic outcomes.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
