About Charnwood Primary School

Charnwood Primary School in Leicester was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2025, a change from its previous Outstanding rating in 2009. The school’s most informative exam metric is the proportion of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, which stood at 64% in the 2023/24 academic year. That figure sits just above the Leicester local authority average of 62%, placing Charnwood 33rd out of 68 primary schools in the area. In the East Midlands region, it ranks 565th out of 1,353 schools, and nationally it sits in the 46th percentile. The school’s reading and maths average scores were 105 and 104 respectively, with 85% of pupils reaching the expected standard in writing — the strongest individual subject result. A smaller proportion, 5%, achieved the higher standard across all three subjects.

The Ofsted inspection report, published in May 2025, judged the quality of education, personal development, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management all as Good. However, the early years provision was rated Requires improvement, which is a notable area for parents of younger children to consider. The school has a capacity of 420 pupils but currently has 434 on roll, meaning it is slightly over capacity. For the 2025/26 intake, the school was oversubscribed: 89 applications were received for 48 places, with 45 first-preference offers made. That gives an oversubscription ratio of 1.85, so competition for places is real. Parent View responses from 31 parents between September 2024 and September 2025 show 96% agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy, and 90% agreed or strongly agreed that their child does well. But only 52% would recommend the school to another parent, and concerns about how issues are handled were flagged — 39% strongly disagreed that concerns are dealt with properly.

Facilities include a library, sports hall, playing fields, ICT suite and a chapel, and the school offers a range of sports including football, gymnastics, tennis, netball, cricket and swimming. Clubs include coding, book club and drama. The school has a nursery provision for children aged three and over. For SEND, Charnwood lists support for specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication needs, hearing impairment, autistic spectrum disorder and other difficulties. The school is a mixed, non-religious state primary for ages 3 to 11, led by headteacher Nazma Jassat. Given its oversubscription and solid but not exceptional results, this school is likely to suit families who live close enough to secure a place and who value a broad range of activities and SEND support, but who may want to investigate the early years provision and the parent concerns around communication and complaints handling.

No catchment data published for this school

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
