About Chadwell Heath Academy

Chadwell Heath Academy has turned a corner academically. In its most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was rated Good across all five graded categories — quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision. That’s a clear improvement from its previous inspection in 2022, when it was judged Requires Improvement overall, with quality of education, leadership and management, and overall effectiveness all scoring 3. The most telling exam metric is Progress 8, which measures how much pupils improve between the end of primary school and GCSEs. At 0.37, the school’s score is above the national average and places it in the top 25 per cent of schools nationally. That’s a strong result, especially given that the local authority average for Redbridge is 0.59, meaning Chadwell Heath pupils make significantly more progress than the typical student in England, even if they sit slightly below the very high bar set by the borough’s best performers.

Digging into the GCSE results, the school’s Attainment 8 score sits at 51.2, and 72.3 per cent of pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths. The EBacc average point score is 4.42, though only 24.9 per cent of pupils entered the EBacc suite of subjects, and just 17.5 per cent achieved a grade 5 or above in it. Progress in English is notably strong at 0.55, while maths progress is slightly negative at -0.14. At A-level, the picture is more mixed. The school’s value-added score is -0.25, which is below average, and the average points per entry is 28.17, equivalent to a C- grade. The best three A-levels average out at grade C, with 5.5 per cent of entries achieving AAB or higher. In the Redbridge league table, Chadwell Heath ranks 12th out of 20 state secondaries by Progress 8, putting it in the lower half of a competitive borough.

The school is heavily oversubscribed: for 2025/26 entry, there were 487 applications for 183 places, a ratio of 2.66 to one, with 163 first-preference offers made from 195 first-preference applications. Facilities include a swimming pool, astro turf, playing fields, science labs, music rooms, art studios, and a sixth-form centre. The school offers a wide range of clubs — from DofE and Model UN to gardening and eco club — and sports including rowing, martial arts, and dance. SEND provision covers nine categories, including autistic spectrum disorder, dyslexia, and speech and language needs. Parent feedback is largely positive: 83 per cent would recommend the school, and strong majorities agree their child is happy, safe, and doing well. However, the SEND support question drew a split response, with 28 per cent strongly disagreeing that needs are met, so families with children who have additional needs may want to explore this further. This is a school that suits families who value strong academic progress at GCSE and a broad extracurricular offer, but who are realistic about sixth-form outcomes being less strong.
