Burston Community Primary School
About Burston Community Primary School
Burston Community Primary School was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2021, a significant improvement from its previous Requires Improvement rating in 2015. The school received Good marks across all five categories inspected, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. However, the school’s Key Stage 2 results tell a more mixed story. In the 2023/24 academic year, just 33% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a Norfolk local authority average of 52%. This places Burston in the bottom half of primary schools nationally, ranking 47th out of 54 schools in South Norfolk and in the 95th percentile nationally. While the school’s reading scores were stronger — 67% of pupils reached the expected standard and 33% achieved a higher standard — maths and writing were weaker, with only 33% and 50% reaching the expected standard respectively.
