About Burnham-on-Crouch Primary School
Burnham-on-Crouch Primary School’s headline metrics put it well ahead of the Essex local authority average for primary schools. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 results, 83% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a LA average of 62%. That is a 21 percentage point gap, and it places the school second out of 17 primaries in the Maldon district, inside the top 10% nationally. The school also performs strongly at the higher standard: 22% of pupils achieved that level across all three subjects, while 45% hit the higher mark in reading and 38% in maths. These figures suggest a consistent focus on stretching pupils as well as securing the basics.
The school’s most recent graded Ofsted inspection, in 2019, rated it Outstanding overall, with Outstanding marks for early years provision, leadership and management, and behaviour and attitudes. An ungraded inspection in January 2025 confirmed that standards have been maintained. The previous graded inspection, in 2014, had rated the school Good overall, so the improvement to Outstanding is a clear upward trajectory. Parent feedback is overwhelmingly positive: 98% of respondents would recommend the school, and 100% agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy there. On academic expectations, 94% agreed the school has high expectations for their child, and 98% felt their child does well.
Burnham-on-Crouch Primary is a full-to-capacity school with 420 pupils on roll, and it is heavily oversubscribed: for 2025/26 entry there were 140 applications for 60 places, with 72 first-preference applications and 54 first-preference offers. The school offers a broad range of facilities including a sports hall, playing fields, art studios, an ICT suite, a forest school and a library. Clubs include drama, art and chess, and sports on offer are football, gymnastics, dance and cricket. SEND provision is comprehensive, covering specific learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language needs, hearing impairment, physical disability, autistic spectrum disorder and other difficulties. This is a school that suits families who value strong academic outcomes, a full programme of enrichment, and a well-established SEND support system, all within a setting where parents report very high levels of satisfaction.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
