About Broughton-in-Amounderness Church of England Primary School
Broughton-in-Amounderness Church of England Primary School is significantly oversubscribed, a clear signal of its popularity among local families. For the 2025/26 reception intake, the school received 182 applications for just 59 places, with 66 families listing it as their first preference and 54 of those receiving offers. That works out at roughly three applications for every place. The school currently has 354 pupils on roll against a capacity of 245, so it is operating well above its official number. Just 4.5% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is notably lower than the national average and suggests a relatively affluent intake. As a Church of England primary, the school has a religious character, and its nursery provision means children can join from age three. The headteacher is Oliver McPhail.
Academically, Broughton-in-Amounderness performs well above the local average. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 tests, 77% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with the Lancashire local authority average of 60%. The school ranks 8th out of 45 primary schools in Preston, placing it in the top 25% nationally. Pupils also achieved strong average scores of 108 in maths and 107 in reading. At the higher standard, 11% achieved the top marks across all three subjects. In its most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024, the school was rated Good overall, with Outstanding judgements for early years provision, personal development, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management. This represents a change from its previous inspection in 2012, when it was rated Outstanding overall.
The school offers a range of facilities including a sports hall, library, ICT suite, sensory room, chapel and outdoor playing fields. Clubs include chess, choir, eco club and gardening, while sports on offer are athletics, netball, football, rounders and cricket. SEND provision covers specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, moderate learning difficulties, speech and language needs, social and emotional mental health needs, and autistic spectrum disorder. Parent View responses from 119 respondents were overwhelmingly positive: 86% would recommend the school, and 95% agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy there. The school is a good fit for families in the Preston area who value strong academic outcomes, a Church of England ethos, and a school with high demand for places. Given the oversubscription, applying as early as possible and listing it as a first preference is advisable.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
