About Brompton Academy

Brompton Academy has been rated Good by Ofsted following its most recent inspection in November 2024, a significant improvement from its previous Requires Improvement rating in 2022. The school received Good marks across all five categories judged: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision. However, the exam results tell a more complicated story. The school’s Progress 8 score for the 2023/24 academic year was -0.37, meaning pupils achieved nearly four-tenths of a grade less per subject than the national average. That puts Brompton Academy in the bottom 50 nationally, ranking 13th out of 18 secondary schools in Medway. The local authority average Progress 8 score is -0.1, so the school sits well below that benchmark. The Attainment 8 score of 35.9 is also modest, and only 42.2% of pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths.

The sixth form shows a similar pattern. The value-added score is -0.39, which is classed as below average, and the average points per entry of 24.65 equates to a D+ grade. Only 3.6% of A-level entries were graded AAB or higher. The best three A-levels averaged out at a C- grade. On the plus side, the school’s parent view survey, based on 98 responses collected between September 2024 and September 2025, shows that 59% of parents would recommend the school. A majority agreed that their child is happy at the school (71% combined strongly agree or agree) and that their child does well (68%). The school also scores well on the range of subjects available (84% agree) and clubs and activities (82% agree). However, only 47% of parents felt concerns are dealt with properly, and 50% agreed that SEND children get the support they need, with 27% strongly disagreeing on that point.

Brompton Academy is a large secondary school with 1,382 pupils on roll, very close to its capacity of 1,400. It is heavily oversubscribed: for 2025/26 entry, there were 934 applications for 217 places, an oversubscription ratio of 4.3 to 1, with 361 first-preference applications. The school has a high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals at 36.7%. Facilities include a swimming pool, astro turf, tennis courts, a chapel, and a sixth form centre. The school offers a wide range of SEND provisions, including support for autistic spectrum disorder, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs, plus a dedicated SEN unit. With a below-average Progress 8 score but a Good Ofsted rating and strong parent satisfaction on happiness and activities, this school may suit families who value pastoral care and enrichment over headline exam results, particularly those in the Medway area looking for a large, inclusive secondary with a sixth form.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.

⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
