About Braeburn Primary and Nursery Academy
Braeburn Primary and Nursery Academy in North Yorkshire was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection in May 2025, a clear step up from its previous Requires Improvement rating in 2023. The inspection team judged all five graded areas — quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision — as Good. On the most telling academic metric, the school’s Key Stage 2 results for 2023/24 show that 50% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. That figure is ten percentage points below the North Yorkshire local authority average of 60%, placing the school 170th out of 223 primary schools in the area. While the school is in the bottom half nationally for this measure, the Ofsted upgrade suggests that teaching and leadership have strengthened since the previous inspection, and the school is now on a more positive trajectory.
Looking more closely at the 2023/24 SATs results, individual subject scores tell a slightly more nuanced story. In reading, 65% of pupils met the expected standard, with an average scaled score of 101, and 13% reached the higher standard. Writing was similar, with 65% at expected and 6% at the higher level. Maths saw 62% at expected, also with 6% at the higher standard, and an average score of 101. No pupil achieved the higher standard across all three subjects. Progress measures were not available in the data, so it is hard to say how much value the school adds relative to pupils’ starting points. The school serves a community with a high level of disadvantage — 69.6% of pupils are eligible for free school meals — which is a significant factor when interpreting these results. The Parent View survey, based on 12 responses, shows that 83% of parents would recommend the school, and 83% agreed or strongly agreed that their child is happy there.
Braeburn is a mixed primary and nursery academy for children aged 3 to 11, with a current roll of 354 pupils against a capacity of 460. It was oversubscribed for 2025/26 reception places, with 43 applications for 30 places and 28 first-preference offers. The school offers a broad range of clubs including film, gardening, coding, eco, chess and book club, and sports such as cross country, dance, football, rounders and cricket. Facilities include a library, ICT suite, music rooms, playing fields and a chapel. SEND provision is well-documented, covering moderate learning difficulty, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication, hearing impairment, physical disability and autistic spectrum disorder. This is a school that has recently turned a corner in Ofsted’s eyes, and while its academic results are below the local average, it is clearly popular with local families and offers strong pastoral and extracurricular support for children with a wide range of needs.

The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
