About Bowes Primary School
Bowes Primary School sits comfortably above the Enfield local authority average for Key Stage 2 outcomes, with 72% of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with the LA average of 67%. That five-point gap is a solid indicator of consistent performance, and the school ranks 22nd out of 59 primary schools in the borough, placing it in the top 40% locally. It is one of only nine primary schools in Enfield rated Outstanding by Ofsted, a distinction it has held since at least its most recent graded inspection in January 2025. The school’s headteacher, Effie Demetriou, leads a mixed, state-funded primary for children aged 3 to 11, with nursery provision on site. With 475 pupils against a capacity of 510, the school is not quite full, but it is heavily oversubscribed: for the 2025/26 intake there were 162 applications for 56 places, and only 51 first-preference offers were made, giving an oversubscription ratio of 2.89.
Beyond the headline combined figure, Bowes’s individual subject scores tell a more nuanced story. In reading, 76% of pupils met the expected standard and 42% reached the higher standard, with an average scaled score of 107. In writing, 79% met the expected standard and 17% achieved the higher mark. Maths saw 78% at the expected level and 14% at the higher level, with an average score of 103. Only 3% of pupils reached the higher standard across all three subjects, which suggests that while most children are solidly on track, very high attainment across the board is less common. The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection in January 2025 awarded Outstanding grades for quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, early years provision, and leadership and management. The previous inspection in 2013 also rated overall effectiveness as Outstanding, so the school has maintained that standard over a long period.
Bowes offers a wide range of facilities including music rooms, art studios, an ICT suite, a sensory room, a sports hall, and a chapel. Sports provision includes swimming, football, netball, cricket, gymnastics, rounders and cross country, and there are clubs such as science, art, coding, book club and eco club. The school has a strong SEND offer, with provisions for autistic spectrum disorder, speech, language and communication needs, hearing impairment, dyslexia, moderate learning difficulty, and social, emotional and mental health needs. Parent views are very positive: 92% would recommend the school, and 95% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that their child is happy here. The school suits families who value strong academic foundations, a broad enrichment programme, and a well-established Outstanding rating, but who are prepared for a competitive admissions process given the high number of applications for places.

Catchment & Local Competition
No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
