About Bletchingley Village Primary School
Ofsted's Parent View survey, based on 76 responses collected between September 2024 and September 2025, shows that 79% of parents would recommend Bletchingley Village Primary School. That's a solid majority, though it leaves more than one in five parents who wouldn't. The school is clearly popular in the local area: for the 2025/26 reception intake, it received 68 applications for just 30 places, an oversubscription ratio of 2.27. All 29 first-preference applicants were offered a place, meaning that if you put it first, you had a very good chance of getting in. On individual survey questions, parents were most positive about their child's happiness and safety, with 90% agreeing or strongly agreeing that their child is happy, and 93% agreeing or strongly agreeing that their child feels safe. The weakest area was wider personal development, where 24% of parents disagreed that the school supports it, and only 20% strongly agreed.
Academically, Bletchingley Village Primary School is currently rated Requires Improvement by Ofsted, following a graded inspection in November 2024. The school's leadership and management were also rated Requires Improvement, though the quality of education itself was judged Requires improvement. On a more positive note, the early years provision, personal development, and behaviour and attitudes were all rated Good. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 assessments, just 31% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with the Surrey local authority average of 66%. This places the school 192nd out of 298 primary schools in the county, and bottom of the 17 schools in the Tandridge district. Individual subject scores were mixed: 58% met the expected standard in maths, 50% in reading, and 38% in writing. Only 4% of pupils achieved the higher standard across all three subjects.
The school has a nursery provision for children aged two and above, and caters for a wide range of special educational needs, including a dedicated SEN unit and support for autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs. Facilities include a dining hall, gymnasium, art studios, library and chapel. After-school clubs range from gardening and chess to science club, choir and book club, while sports on offer include rounders, cross country, gymnastics, athletics and cricket. With 247 pupils on roll against a capacity of 210, the school is over its official capacity, and 26.3% of pupils are eligible for free school meals. This is a school that suits families who value a strong early years and pastoral foundation, but who are aware that academic outcomes are currently below the local average and that the school is working through an Ofsted improvement plan.
