About Badsworth Church of England Voluntary Controlled Junior and Infant School
Badsworth Church of England Voluntary Controlled Junior and Infant School is clearly a popular choice among local families, and the numbers back that up. For the 2025/26 reception intake, the school received 88 applications for just 30 places, giving an oversubscription ratio of 2.93. Of those, 31 families put it down as their first preference, and 28 first-preference offers were made. That level of demand suggests parents who get to know the school tend to want it. The school is a Church of England state primary for mixed genders, ages 4 to 11, and is part of the Wakefield local authority. It currently has 206 pupils on roll, just shy of its capacity of 210, and 15 per cent of pupils are eligible for free school meals. Jenny Griffiths is the headteacher.
Academically, Badsworth performs well above the local average. In the 2023/24 Key Stage 2 tests, 77 per cent of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared with a Wakefield average of just 64 per cent. That puts the school 19th out of 97 primary schools in the local authority, comfortably in the top 25 per cent nationally. Results in individual subjects were strong: 90 per cent of pupils met the expected standard in reading, 87 per cent in writing and 83 per cent in maths. At the higher standard, 20 per cent achieved across all three subjects, with reading particularly impressive at 40 per cent. Average scaled scores were 109 in reading and 105 in maths. Ofsted inspected the school in February 2023 and confirmed it remains Good, a rating it has held consistently since at least its previous graded inspection in 2013.
The school offers a solid range of facilities and activities that give a sense of what life is like beyond the classroom. There’s a Forest School, a sensory room, a chapel, a gymnasium, music rooms and an ICT suite, plus playing fields and an outdoor playground. Clubs include chess, coding, science, eco, film and book club, and sports on offer are gymnastics, rounders, cricket and football. For children with additional needs, the school has SEND provision for specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language communication needs, hearing impairment and physical disability. With no nursery or sixth form, it’s a straightforward primary experience. Given its strong results and high demand, this is a school that suits families who want a well-regarded village primary with a clear Church of England character and a broad extracurricular offer.

No catchment data published for this school
The dashed grey ring is a generic 1-mile reference area — it's not an admission boundary. Real catchment depends on year, demand, and council criteria. We currently have real data for about 6% of UK schools and are actively expanding the database.
⚠ This school is oversubscribed — without published cutoff data we can't show how far places reach. Check your council's admissions page.
